PANEL DISCUSSION
The Latino Church:
A Catalyst for Multiethnic Kingdom Building

The Latino population continues to experience significant growth across the nation, and this is reflected in the growth of the Latino church. This panel will explore how the Church can seize this cultural moment and, specifically, explore the question of: "How can we partner with our Latino/a brothers and sisters to share the good news of Jesus, and build a multilingual, multigenerational, diverse community?"

La población Latina continúa experimentando un crecimiento significativo en todo el país y esto se refleja en el crecimiento de la iglesia Latina. Ministry Connections

Conference attendees will have a chance to connect with others who do what they do in ministry. We will have a little over an hour set aside for you to meet in a room at The Galt House and mingle/snack/chat/hang with others who do similar functions in their local church. This time will not be overly structured, although we’ll likely have a facilitator helping everyone feel comfortable. The purpose is simple: connect with others and plant the seed of friendship and camaraderie.

BREAKOUTS

The goal in this session is to empower pastors to consider preaching on topics of race, multiethnicity and the importance of engaging in the issues that affect communities of people in your church.

In this session, pastors and leaders will engage chapter 12 of "In Church as is in Heaven," to understand the role hospitality plays in creating a multiethnic kingdom culture. They will also work toward establishing hospitality liturgies that can be used within the churches they serve.

In this session, pastors and leaders will  gain insights on how to cultivate an intercultural church, as well as identify some key steps they can take to help their churches begin the journey towards walking in a Multi-ethnic Kingdom culture.

In this session, leaders and pastors will learn about the importance of contextualized missilogy that engages the community in which the church is located. Leaders will be equipped with tools that help them understand their community's contours, and ways in which their church and its members can serve in their community.

In this session, leaders and pastors will engage with the scriptures to see how churches supported one another for kingdom advancement. From this thought, leaders will engage with creative ways to engage/ support multiethnic ministry even if the dynamics of their churches don't lead to it.

In this session, pastors and leaders will engage in the spiritual practice of lament and will learn helpful ways to teach, equip and include this practice in various rhythms of their church.

DIVERSITY FAQ

  • We empower a diverse group of leaders from all people groups to plant churches in diverse areas because God values all people. Our leaders embrace humble equality as we pursue unity in diversity in our local contexts and in the life of our network.

  • The most challenging part of this year's Leaders’ Summit isn't a concept but a belief that we hope attendees will come to the conference with. We hope that Harbor leaders would believe that no matter where they are as they explore ethnic reconciliation, there's a place for them to learn, heal, encourage, and discuss this subject in a gospel-saturated, real, yet honest way. This subject tends to be divisive and discouraging; we hope to change this narrative by showing and modeling how the gospel gives us the capacity to have this conversation and to equip our churches in a life-giving way.

  • We believe that this year's Leaders’ Summit will give attendees confidence in knowing that the gospel has the capacity to build multi-ethnic, multi-socioeconomic, multi-generational churches. We also hope leaders would leave encouraged by being equipped with a framework and practical tools to help take their ministry's next step. This is good news for deacons, elders, children ministers, and outreach strategists alike!

  • Come to this year's Leaders’ Summit to be equipped with a biblical vision of justice and ethnic reconciliation in a way that gives up "neither sober realism nor kingdom hope." The fellowship will be rich, the music will be great, and the speakers will point you to Jesus and who you are in him.

GENERAL FAQ

  • Any church member, ministry leader, or pastor who desires to see his or her church take steps toward better reflecting God's beautifully diverse design for his kingdom. Even if you serve in a homogenous area, the Leaders’ Summit will equip you with a long-term vision for cultivating a church culture and posture that is welcoming to all.

  • We’re partnering with the Galt House Hotel this year. It’s only about 10 minutes from Sojourn Midtown and it’s where our breakouts and some networking opportunities will take place. They’ve given us a great rate of $159/night. Book here. However, you’re more than welcome to stay in and airbnb, with a friend, or anywhere else!

  • Your registration fee includes access to each main session, breakouts, and Ministry Connections sessions. It also includes an invitation to the opening night party at Sojourn Midtown after the main session.

  • We’ll enjoy snacks and dessert at the party on Tuesday. There will, of course, be coffee and water at every main session and breakout. We’ll serve some light refreshments at the Ministry Connection times. We won’t have any full meals together unless you’d like to register for the Regional Luncheon, where you’ll get the opportunity to meet and eat with other folks who serve in the same region as you! The cost is $25 and you can register here.

  • We won’t be offering a digital ticket. However, we will send the audio of the main sessions to attendees for free after the conference.

  • Yes! We won’t have typical sponsor booths this year, but we have lots of other opportunities for sponsorship. Email our Events Manager, Jerrica, at jerrica@harbornetwork.com if you’re interested in sponsoring!
